Here are a few from their engagement session a few weeks back:

For Anna and Chuck’s engagement photos we ventured out to Shakertown one day in late fall.  It’s funny to me that there are so many things that are distinctly Kentucky that I never have really had the chance to explore.  Exploring Shakertown with these two was super fun and I can only imagine that their wedding day is going to be a blast.

First I have to say that Anna’s fiance’s name is A-W-E-S-O-M-E… I have a Charles (my middle son) who we were thinking of calling Chuck before we decided on using his middle name “Ross” as his “name” so it’s always fun to meet other Chucks, Charlies, Charles, and of course Rosses!  But even better… Chuck’s last name is TAYLOR!  I stinking love it.  I am sure, after having lived in this name his entire life that he may get sick of it but I love it.  I would totally bribe him to wear “Chuck’s” to his wedding!  LOL

I just really love couples who are so comfortable together.  I think that I have categorized all couples into three lump sums: 1) Giggly Anticipation, 2) Hip and Sexy, 3) Totally Comfortable.  Anna and Chuck definitely fall into the TOTALLY comfortable category.  It is always a JOY to photograph a couple who have such a great connection.

And of COURSE we share a mutual love of the UK Wildcats Basketball!  GOOOOOOOOOOO C……A………T………..S  – CATS CATS CATS!  I guess if I ever had a DUKE fan I might have to refuse to photograph their sportswear.  Does that make me a bad person!?

A funny side note about this photo… what you CANNOT see is there is a whole pasture full of COWS right behind them and down the hill.  And for some reason, on this day, it must have been close to feeding time because the cows were a bit loud.  Every time we would try capture an intimate moment a COW would let us know how he felt about the whole thing… it was quite comical.

We met Josh and Amy at a park near Amy’s house because we wanted to get some photos of the couple and their adorable dogs, Kota and Dante.  I think Dante is one of the most adorable dogs I have ever met in my life!  I would totally take him home with me but I think Amy is kind of attached!  LOL  I loved that Amy and Josh were dressed in one of our favorite attires… UK gear and even the dogs had their own UK shirts!

We are so excited that Dante and Kota will be a part of Amy and Josh’s wedding this summer.  It should be tons of fun capturing these special members of the family as they join the group for the wedding.  This year must have been the year of the DOG in the Chinese calendar because we certainly have met many special fur babies in 2010 and look forward to seeing them again in 2011 at their parents’ weddings!

After Amy was thoroughly exhausted from chasing the dogs around the park, we headed out to Waveland State Historic park for some more intimate couple pictures.  It was a beautiful fall day for engagement photos and here is what we came up with!

We are excited to photograph their wedding this summer and know that it is going to be a fabulous day!

Alyssa and Chris will be getting married this summer at Keeneland and we are very much looking forward to their wedding!  For their engagement session we ventured out to Waveland State Historic Site, in Lexington.  It was a beautiful fall day.  In Lexington it is tricky to catch the fall color because our peak color comes at the end of October which is generally rainy.  Also, this year, we had a VERY DRY summer so our fall was not extremely colorful and the leaves fell early.  Fortunately enough for us, Waveland was still beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed roaming their grounds for our shoot.

Alyssa and Chris even allowed us to bring along a videographer friend who is making a promotional video for us!  (shhh… the cat’s out of the bag now!  Look for our promo video coming SOON!)  They were such great sports and we know that their wedding is going to be TONS of fun!

I have to say that Alyssa and Chris’ engagement pics are some of my VERY FAVORITES from this year!!!

Then the fun part.  Sometimes we will ask our couples to do fun things like dance in the middle of a field or jump on each other’s shoulders.  We asked Alyssa and Chris if he would pick her up and swing her around… while kissing!  I guess its kind of like trying to chew gum and walk… here is what happened…

It started beautifully, all nice and romantic, great color… nice action shot… and no sooner than I said “looks great guys!” did this happen….

And like any good photographer… I did NOT stop to help them … I really was most concerned about getting the shot!  LOL  Bad… right?  I did however, stop to laugh with them after it was all over.  You have to laugh at yourself every now and then right?

(NOTE: No brides or grooms were harmed in the making of these photographs…( although I cannot speak for the grass … it was pretty dry and crunchy…..)

But I guess all is well that ends well right?

Amanda and Brian are admittedly special to us.  We just met them in the process of their booking us to photograph their wedding but during that process we learned that they will be getting married at Cardome in Georgetown, KY.  Would anyone like to guess WHY that is SO important?

Yes… 10 years ago Troy and I had our own wedding there and I still think that it is one of the most beautiful venues in Kentucky.  (PS… YES I own the rights to my wedding images and the “negatives”… 10 years ago our pics were shot on medium format FILM! )  **This is where I insert a mini lesson on copyright law… anyone visiting here… PLEASE… respect your photographer’s right to own their creations.  Do not copy, post, recreate or print your photos without their permission… it makes us photogs really cranky! … we do have businesses and children whose mouths we need to feed and we gave everything away for free we would all be broke and have no money to buy these cameras that help us create these awesome images!** rant over.

Amanda and Brian’s engagement session pretty much traversed the entire city.  We started out downtown at one of Amanda’s favorite places in Lexington, Triangle Park.  She has fond memories of Triangle Park, as do I!  We stayed downtown for a bit and later headed to Brian’s house to change and pick up their dogs.

We were off to Masterson Station park and some surrounding areas to shoot some true “fall” images!  It was cool gorgeous day and the fall color was amazing.

Here is what ensued:

At any rate, every year we have the honor of photographing a special couple’s wedding on us.  Yes… for free.  Why?  Because we want to!  I wish I that I could spread the free wedding love and fabulous photos to everyone but unfortunately I have three very hungry caterpillars (er.. kids) at home who like to eat (and fly to Disney!).  But… each year we give away a wedding.  Could we book a wedding on that date?  Yes, but we charge nothing on that day because we can.  We do own the joint!

This year we chose Lindsey and Allen.  Sometimes our couples magically drop into our life and we have never met them before.  This year was different.  We have known Lindsey for MANY years and as a matter of fact SHE attended our wedding 10 years ago!  We were so honored to be able to spend the day with this fabulous couple and capture all of their wedding memories.  We will be posting their wedding pics later (you can see their sneak peek now on FACEBOOK ) but we did have a chance to take them out on an adventure for their engagement session that took us from their own backyard to Evan’s Orchard in Georgetown, KY.

We also have to give Kudos to Chip who was SO SICK but was (for lack of a better word) a real trooper through the whole session!

I have to say that Melanie looked amazing in her red dress and then her cute purple sweater set and amazing mustard colored shoes.  Future brides… note the wardrobe… I LOVE those colors!  See how amazing they look against the sky?  Did I ever tell you (meaning you my collection brides) that I LOVE colorful accessories?  Guess what… I LOVE colorful accessories!  PSA over

So I let it “slip” in my last post that we were allowed a few minutes inside UK’s Commonwealth Stadium to photograph a part of Kristen & Ben’s Engagement session.  Kristen, although originally from Texas, definitely bleeds blue!  (WAY TO GO!!!)  I LOVED that she stayed true to her roots rockin’ the cowboy boots with her adorable UK gear!

Are we the luckiest photographers ever?  I think so!  I am so blessed to have not only the SWEETEST but some of the most beautiful couples EVER!!!  Meet Kristen and Ben.  They are getting married in May 2011 and we, of course, will be photographing their fairytale wedding!  We had a blast at their session!  We started off in a random field on the way to Talon Winery, spent a bit of time roaming through the vineyards, then headed downtown to Commonwealth Stadium where we were invited to photograph on the field!  (well truth be told… we asked… they said yes!!! )  We finished our evening with an exciting journey through an alley way.  Too much fun!  We are TOTALLY excited about their wedding and cannot wait for next summer to get here!
